To honor the fact that we are in the middle of week, I will tell you five facts of life, about me or someone else, faith, world and existence in general.
And what I want from you, my readers?
I want to know about you!
Leave me your facts, so I can enjoy reading them!
They can also be about you, your life or anything you find fascinating in this world or in the world beyond.
Here I go:
1) When I was a child I used to love cross country skiing and skating. My mother's brothers are Finnish champions in Winter Biathlon (skiing and shooting) and I used to play that I was a biatholonist myself. Until as a teenager I started to suffer from undiagnosed astma that was triggered, among other things, by cold. It finally got so bad that I started to hate cold Finnish winters. You would too if you couldn't breath. And that is one of the reasons why I am here in Ecuador, in a country without winter.
2) I have always wanted to be a missionary. Or at least since I was six years old. That was the first time I told my parents that I wanted to be a missionary when I grew up. But as a child I thought I would go to Africa, like all the other missionaries. When I grew up alittle, I felt that my calling was in India and then I started dreaming about going to China. But when I was in High School I met a girl whose family was missionaries in Bolivia. I talked with her and her family and went to home and told my parents that we were all going to go as missionaries to Bolivia. My parents did have a calling but they felt, after many disapointments, that it was just not what God had meant to happen. But my insisting got them to call to our Church and led to them coming to Ecuador as missionaries. After I graduated from High School and couldn't come with them anymore. So, I came to visit them, and here I am 17 years later. It was a long visit :)
3) I co-sleeped with my son and carried him around in a sheet, as they call carrying cloth here in Ecuador. He was a colicy baby and cried a lot. And the only thing that would make him stop crying, eventually, was me carrying him around, wrapped in the sheet and singing my lungs out.
4) I studied first three years in the college for a teaching degree. I dropped that and studied a year for a year in a nursing school. Then I dropped that and got me a degree as an English as Foreign Language teacher from a University. After I graduated I told myself that I was finally going to study something that I actually liked. And started to study my Masters degree in Psychopedagogy. It is about the same as Special Education teacher but mixed with some Psychology studies. It took me some time to find what I really love to do but when I found it, it was love for ever :)
5) I am a movie cryier. I was already before I got bregnant. But after that it has been impossible. Now I see a pic of something sad, or see a video at Youtube of poor children, or watch a movie, and as they say here, I'm a sea of tears. I just can't stop them. I keep sobbing and sobbing and it's really embarasing. We went to see Toy Story 3 with my son to the movie theater and I cried out loud. And it hasn't gotten any better. I still keep crying at the movies and my son is nine. Can't blame it on him anymore.
Now it's your turn...
I cry at movies, too. And television shows and I've been known to even cry at commercials, too. I am a sap :)
ReplyDeleteI do that, too. I blame the motherhood, lol
DeleteMy Daughter was also very colicy and I can tell you... it was rough. So happy she out grew it.
ReplyDeleteIt is tough. I was so tired all the time. I am glad he out grew it also.
DeleteI cry at movies too!! I just can't help it. :)
ReplyDeleteLet's see: I'm hoping to become a foster parents this year; I have two boys (5 and 4); I am originally from Mexico (and yeah, I don't look the part); I love coffee....like LOOOOVE coffee; and I love to take photos!! :)
Wishing you all the luck with your new forter children! I love to take pics, too!
DeleteI am super emotional, too. I also co sleep with my kids and used a baby wrap, too.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to be very similar in a lot of things, Becky :)
DeleteBoth my kids had colic. I spent a lot of time carrying them as well.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew what causes it. It really is hard for the baby and the parents. If only there were something to do.
DeleteI tend to cry a lot especially watching those videos where you know the person that made them has passed away and it's their "goodbye video". Oh man, tear jerker!
ReplyDeleteOh, those are the worst. Or just anything that someone is so brave and is going to sacrifice herself/himself. Even if it's just made up...
Deletea child of God - and a couponer..... :D
ReplyDeleteI wish there were coupons in Ecuador, too
DeleteI love that you are living out your dream as a Missionary! That is really cool! Thanks for sharing with us a little about yourself. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Jessica. Now it's your turn ;)
DeleteI have quite a few nieces and nephews who were colicky babies. I remember trying to help my sisters with them. It was so tiring. Do not envy that. I don't know how I was blessed with non colic babies. but I am so grateful for it.
ReplyDeleteI am also a Huge movie crier. It wasn't so bad before I became a mom, but now after three kids, I'm horrible. I even cry in some commercials. Goodness. it's like it gets worse with each kid.
I blame the hormones. We are supposed to be emphatic. Well, sometimes it's just too much emphaty.
DeleteI'm emotional (at books, at movies, at tv shows, you name it). I love to cook but I'm not very good at it. I was born in New York and moved to Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Ohio before I was 18. I love music. I'm a blogger!
ReplyDeleteI moved a lot around too as a child, Mandi. It makes a childhood very different, doesn't it.
DeleteI am such a crier too. In movies, in tv shows. It got worse after I have my baby.
ReplyDeleteMichelle F.
Good to know I'm not alone :)
DeleteOh yeah, I cry about everything. In fact, the first thing my husband and mother-in-law say when they see me cry is "are you pregnant" as I get super overly cry-baby when pregnant, but nope, chances are I'm just crying!
DeleteMy husband and I are planning to go on a mission when our kids are old enough and out of the home. We can't wait!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful! To me it's the best thing in the world.
Delete1. I am a movie crier 2. I constantly worry about things. 3. I don't deal well with stress 4. I love to bake but hate to cook 5. I'm gluten free
ReplyDeleteWe're so similar, Jennifer. I'm not gluten free, though. Planning on it...
DeleteI just cant cry during a movie.. And i am not a cosleeper.. not a fan of that.
ReplyDeleteIt's because you don't have the right hormones, LMAO!
DeleteMy husband served as a church missionary to Ecuador before we got married, his brother just got back from Guatemala, and my brother went to Brazil. Its fun serving the Lord and sharing His love with the world.
ReplyDeleteIt is and it can make such a change in your spiritual life, Elizabeth
DeleteIt's great to know more about you.;) Anyway, facts about me: 1. I co-sleep with my babies too. 2. I love riding a motorcycle. 3. I dreamed of becoming a police officer and failed. 4. I became a flight attendant an LOVE it so very much. 5. I wish to work as a flight attendant again.:)
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn to drive a motorcycle, April. Flight attendant must be an interesting job but really hard too.
Deletei'm also a crier. my 4 year old takes after me.
ReplyDeleteIt's the hormones... I blame it one them ;)
DeleteMy two eldest had colic. It was rough!
ReplyDeleteIt is, I read somewhere that babies cry is the most annoying thing in the world. Well, colicy cry is even worse.
DeleteLoved reading the get to know you questions, and the pic is adorable! Thanks so much for sharing! happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday too, Cindy. But now it's your turn ;)
DeleteI'm glad to know you Joanna. Here's about me: 1. I like to work by hands and express my creativity 2. I love nature and being there 3. I'm blessed with husband and three children 4. I'm emotional 5. Baking and cooking are also near my heart.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know you too, Sanna. God bless!
DeleteI cry at TV shows, but not so much movies. There are times where I have wanted to go to another country to speak English... but know that I wouldn't be able to just up and move all the kids because my ex-h would surely stop me.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can still fulfill your dream, Kisa
DeleteI had my son adopted to an amazing family. His mother and I were too crazy to provide a stable environment.
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't regret it, it has wounded me in ways I didn't expect. He'll be five this October.
It must be tough, Steve. I hope you get to see him from time to time. But as you say, it was the best thing you could do for him. God bless!
DeleteI remembered to cry for one movie ever since but not used to cry for movies..
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky then :)
DeleteI am a movie cryer also. I even cry over commercials sometimes!
ReplyDeleteThey just know how to jerk our tears...
DeleteI'm totally a movie crier, too. Well, not just a movie crier - I cry at a lot of commercials, too!
ReplyDeleteCommercials are designed to make us feel. So I can't really blame you, lol
DeleteI am movie & commercial crier as well. Anything little bit emotional gets me in tears.
ReplyDeleteIt's the hormones, Bibiana. I blame them for it all, LOL
DeleteI am a sap. :) It doesn't take much for me to get emotional.
ReplyDeleteGlad to meet another sap ;)
DeleteNice to meet you! I'm a movie crier too, oh and Wednesday happens to be my favourite day of the week :)
ReplyDeleteWednesdays are fun, Kathleen :)
DeleteI left one before and here are two more:
ReplyDelete- I used to be a teacher and even now I miss it a lot.
- Every year, I used to sing songs with my little sister until 5-6 am the night before we were going to the sea side. We were too excited to sleep.
I miss teaching children too, Petro. It is so amazing! I can imagine you with your little sister :)
DeleteI cry at movies all the time too. My first son was also a colicy baby. I feel your pain from that.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nikki. It was hard.
DeleteI am a big crier at movies!!!! I am such a sap!
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone, Melissa :)
DeleteI also cry while watching a movie,my husband say I'm to emotional
ReplyDeleteMen! LOL
DeleteYupppp.. I'm a crier, too... watching TV, movies you name it.. I have tears running down my face..lol
ReplyDeleteWe need to start cryiers anonymous :)
DeleteI cry about everything, also. Must be as you get older! When I was a kid I wanted to be an Architect. But then I realized I wasn't creative and decided to study Political Science. Not a lot of call for that. Somehow I ended up in computers. But I'm happy and that's all that counts!
ReplyDeleteYes, Karen. The important thing is to enjoy what you do! I'm glad you have found your place :)
DeleteBecause I have left facts about my personal life in the past, I figured I would leave a couple facts about my blog this time.
ReplyDelete1. I once wrote a blog post for Freschetta Pizza and my post was selected to receive $1,000!
2. About a year ago my blog was featured in Women's World magazine
WOW! That is amazing! Congratulations, Lawna!
DeleteWe are baby carriers and co-sleepers here, too. Only way to get some much needed quiet and rest!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true, Elizabeth. It is wonderful how they calm down when they can feel you near.
DeleteI cry at movie commercials. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is extreme crying ;)
DeleteMy daughter was colicy baby. We use to give her a massage. Lay her tummy-down across my legs and gently rub his back to help release pent-up gas.. but it was rough
ReplyDeleteIt were some rough mounths. I tried the massages also. Sometimes they would help but there were some nights when all I could do was walk around and sing.
DeleteThat picture is just precious! Oh, and I cry like a baby with movies... commercials... doesn't take much!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jennifer. I love that pic also.
DeleteI was a teacher for 8 years! =) Great facts to get to know you better!
ReplyDeleteIt's always cool to meet another teacher, Kristin :)
DeleteI've always wanted to travel and do some type of humanitarian work. Now that my daughters are older, I think I'm to old for it.
ReplyDeleteIt's never too late. And you're only as old that you let yourself believe. Just find you place and go for it!
DeleteI think it's sweet that you have a soft heart and are quick to tears when you get emotional. I adore that first picture of you and your son, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz. I love the pic, too :)
DeleteI cry at movies or any other shows too! OMG. Glad you found your passion! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pauline. And glad to hear I'm not alone :)
DeleteYou're not alone. I'm on the same boat. I easily cry watching dramas or movies haha.
ReplyDeleteIt's the hormones, Nita. It's all their fault ;)
DeleteI love learning about your story! Glad you've found your calling in so many places in your life.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine
DeleteI was never a cryer until I was pregnant with my first son. After that, I could never turn off the waterworks. There is even a grocery store commercial that can make me misty! (its for Publix, and it always airs around the holidays) I have been a lot of things in my adult life, but I still don't know what I am going to be "when I grow up." I have enjoyed writing though, and recently published my first book.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book! I really think it's the hormones. I remeber I was four month bregnant and reading a baby magazine and the waterworks turned on. I had no idea what was happening but I just couldn't stop sobbing. It was a bit scary to tell the truth.
DeleteOh yes, I am a movie crier too. And in books as well! And it all started after having kids too. They really mess with the system, huh? Glad you found a job you love!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Theresa. Yes, kids mess with the system, sigh ;)
DeleteI am a total movie crier. I am also a scaredy cat. I can't watch scary movies. they give me nightmares.
ReplyDeleteI hate scary movies, Tammilee. Never been able to watch them. I totally get nightmares, too.
DeleteThat's such a darling picture! I'm definitely a movie, commercial, book crier, too. That's not a bad thing though; just means we're sensitive souls :)
ReplyDeleteHere's a fact about me: I got sick with chronic Lyme Disease when I was 14 years old and since that inhibits me from getting a workforce job, I created my own job in 2008 & 2009 by hand making and buying and selling vintage jewelry. I also started blogging around that time and have cultivated my healthy living blog since then!
What a great way of taking your life into your own hands, Kayla. Hoping you all the best with your blog!
DeleteBeing missionary was the Nobel thought you had at that tender age. It was nice to read growth of life with you step wise step, your being so close to life is a lesson to be learned by many.
ReplyDeleteMy singing actually made my son cry. I wish it would have soothed him!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if my singing soothed but at least it soothed me.
DeleteI will only cry at a movie if something happens to animal-and according to my Mom I used to have tears running down my face when I watched any TV program where an animal was hurting. Lately I have been crying from happiness as well-have no idea where that is coming from! I have always been and will always be a reader. And unless you know me very well most people don't guess at how stubborn I really am!
ReplyDeleteI tend to cry at movies too - even when its even cartoonish lol - haha!
ReplyDeleteYes, Aisha, no matter what kind of movie it is, I'm sure to cry too :)
Delete1. I LOVE the cold…from inside, ha! I live in Florida, so I’m pretty happy that the coldest it’s gotten here this year has been 26 degrees. And I’m already looking forward to “Spring”
ReplyDelete2. I have been on two missions trips in my life – once to London, England, and the other to Caracas, Venezuela.
3. The only person I sleep with is my husband LOL (And the small black furry creature who likes to curl up between us!)
4. I started out majoring in Psychology, and then switched to a double major in Journalism and Public Relations. Now I’m doing insurance marketing for a living, and actually really enjoying that!
5. I am an EVERYTHING crier! Movies, TV shows, commercials. I cried on the way to work this morning because there was a dead cat in the road LOL
We are so similar! I love the cold from the inside, too. It looks so lovely outside and it's so warm and cozy where I am, LOL
DeleteI cry during movies all the time. I even cry during some commercials. lol
ReplyDeleteIt's the hormones, I blame it all on them ;)
DeleteI am a movie and TV cryer too. I just found myself crying at this weeks episode of Biggest Loser.
ReplyDeleteIt's the emotions. I cry at moments like that too.
DeleteBoy I wish I had known about the trick of carrying your baby around in a sheet when my son was a baby. He had colic and NOTHING worked for him!
ReplyDeleteI didn't always work. But it worked enough that I didn't completely loose my mind.
DeleteWhen I was young I wanted to be a teacher. Even through high school and after graduating I dreamed of working in a school with young children. It wasn't until my fiance and I got a dog that I became so passionate about her health and well-being and wanted to become a veterinarian. Schooling for vets isn't too local to me, so I took the human route (and better job market) and am in school to be a nurse.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the good luck and success with your studies, Samantha!
DeleteI always cry at movies. I cried so often during Catching Fire it was almost stupid. Titanic is the biggest weepfest ever. I can't get through that without crying, even after seeing it a million times.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know I'm not alone, Isabella :)
Deletei'm not a cryer by nature i was taught crying is a sign of weakness and weakness wasn't allowed in my family if you wanted to survive
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that Becca. We all need to show emotions and crying is actually good for health. HUGS!
DeleteI am an emotional person and movies do make me cry. We would love to be missioners but til kids are older. Had to many dreams of them when they were younger so when the time is right I guess we will do that task.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic dream, Emy! Go for it :)
DeleteMovies make me cry too. When I didn't get enough sleep when the kids were younger I cried through kids programs too!
ReplyDeleteI know, Pam. I used to do that too!
DeleteMy mother and two sisters suffered from asthma and just like you, I am a movie crier myself lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your mother and sisters, asthma is not fun. And the movie creing... It's all because of the hormones ;)
DeleteI had two dream jobs when I was younger, one was to work in IT with computers of any kind and the other was to be a wife/mom. I became a single mom and put myself through college and then met my husband had a second child and walked away from IT to be home for my family. Stick with school if it is what you want - I am sure you will do well.
ReplyDeleteI agree Jennifer. We should do what we really want, not just do what we feel like we should do.
DeleteThanks for sharing. So many similarities to me
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that :)
DeleteThanks for sharing! I am a big movie crier too, especially now that I am pregnant. The hormones are all over the place and can make you super emotional!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember that time. Glad it's so much time ago, lol
DeleteI love to hear about bloggers. I am a big sap at movies too!
ReplyDeleteIt seems there are a lot of us :)
DeleteI've always thought that it would be a great experience to do mission work! My grandmother did a lot of mission work when I was growing up and I know this is something I want to accomplish too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteStick with the dream Cara. It is amazing!
DeleteGreat post! I have always wanted to do missionary work as well! I can be emotional so I can be an even bigger sap at sad movies..
ReplyDeleteYou should really go for it, Heather.
DeleteMy son was a very colicky baby and so I know how you feel. Had to carry him around a lot too and drive him around in the car to get him to sleep.
ReplyDeleteYes, the car thing worked really well also. But the bad things was that sometimes nothing just worked.
DeleteI love my cats, my husband and my kids. Some days in that order.
ReplyDeleteLOL Jennifer. I can understand you :)
DeleteHehehe nothing wrong with crying at things that are sad i am like that to but also when i see things like someone proposing in a really sweet way lol.my kiddies come first well joint with hubby lol then my animals nothing else really matters to me,oh an i will do my best to get anything and everything i want either free or with a massive discount never like paying full price for anything. :-)
ReplyDeleteI can get very teary eyed from good things too, Kay. It's the emotion of the moment :) And trying to get the best bargain out of everything sounds very sensible to me.
DeleteLooking at me you wouldn't tell I was sensitive but I cry all the time!
ReplyDeleteEmotions are such a strange thing, Maria. And like they say, you can never really tell the book from the cover.
DeleteBe proud of your movie crying ways. I too cry at sappy movies. I too coupon and did the sling carrying and co-sleeping with my kids. Great minds think a like. Great getting to know you.
ReplyDeleteI love getting to know you too, Chrishelle. And yes, great minds think alike :)
DeleteI hate the cold which is why I'm not a big fan of Colorado. I'm also a shopaholic and can't ever pass up a sale. :)
ReplyDeleteI love to see Colorado in pics, Amanda. I am not sure if I would love it very close, at least during the winter. But I would like to visit there some day. Preferably during the summer.
Delete
