Sapo Rumi - Hostal and Tours

San Vicente de Sapo Rumi is a small Kichwa community just few miles outside of Tena.

In the community you can find the Sapo Rumi, or frog stone, which is the reason of the community's name.
It is a stone with old petroglyphs depicting eight forms, very similiar to a frog, or sapo in Spanish.

Rumi means stone in Kichwa.

The stone is located at the Achiyaku, or Wisdom Water river, achi meaning wisdom and yaku water in Kichwa.
Next to the Achiyaku you can find also Cabañas Sapo Rumi, or Sapo Rumi Hostel.

The hostel is owned by local Kichwas and offers lodging and tours for the tourists.
The lodging is very basic but the river has a beautiful beach and the location is lovely.

There are also several different tours where you can visit local caverns with more petroglyphs, go see orchids and other local flora or even see Amazonic animals.

Sapo Rumi is definitely a place to visit when you come to Tena.

  3. Hostals were popular when I traveled Europe back in the late 1960s. Glad to see they are still an option in this new age!
