The
earth bent its back.
The
wind threw itself to the air and the water cried over the jungle.
But
they all knew they needed to answer the queens bidding.
The
prince had gone crazy with rage and was a danger to the people they had sworn
to take care of.
It
was time to do something.
The
queen cried the words and the rain poured down on the bodies around the prince.
Making
ordinary vultures out of the horrible monsters.
The
earth shook under prince’s feet, throwing him out of balance and wind tied a
knot of air around him.
Together
they sang a lullaby and little by little they felt the rage wash away.
The
prince closed his eyes and fell asleep, so profound was his sleep that it was
like he had died.
The
wind carried him and deposited him under a stone ledge.
The
water hid him in a cloud of mist to make sure it would never harm him.
And
the earth cradled him in its arms.
He
would always have a place, he would always be safe, and he would always be
asleep.
The
queen shuddered and when her mind touched the sleeping monster she recognized
her son.
That
moment her icy heart cracked and started to melt.
She
could feel all the years and all the pain she had been hiding from.
And
she knew that her husband had been taken away from her and she had lost her son
too.
Because
of her inability love him when he needed her the most.
And
now he was also gone and it was too late to do anything.
She
cried and her tears watered the ground forming a river and the wind carried the
tears with it like a mist.
Everywhere
in the land the people could taste queen’s sorrow and be part of it.
With
the tears her ice melted and flowed away from her.
What
was left was a wife without a husband, a mother without a son, a queen with a
country to rule and with a heart bleeding from sorrow.
But
she could not hide anymore, not behind ice nor fire.
Not
until she would be cradled in the arms of the earth, like her son.
