The Queen With The Frozen Heart - A Cup Of Chicha

The jaguar men lay around the cave, snoring and drooling.

Iluku grabbed an ear and twisted it.

She yanked a piece of fur.

But the two men only moved lazily.

The first one tried to scratch behind his ear and fell down to the floor where he continued to snore even louder.

Finally she was happy.

A pilche of chicha under her arm she marched towards the entrance.

- Take the big bowl, she commanded her husband, the one that is full!

The passage under the mountain was dark and damp.

They were moving further and further inside the rock and the earth, away from the air and the open sky.

She could feel the weakness in her bones.

Just like an old, rheumatic woman would.

When they finally reached the dungeons she was limping and holding her back in pain.

- Do you really have to keep your prisoners all the way back here, she groused at the guards, at least get someone younger to bring you your chicha! Do you think that I’m a maid born just day before yesterday to be walking down all those passages!

- If you wish I can save you the trouble of walking back, one of the guards growled showing his teeth, I don’t think Kasike minds if we have one more or less closed in behind the bars.

- Wouldn’t you just love that, Iluku hissed at the guard, but I’ll just ask who’ll make you chicha then?

- Stop bothering her, another guard warned the first one, I’ve been hankering that chicha since she first came here.

- Don’t think that I’ll take just anything woman, the first jaguar man’s hackles were up, but a big pilche of chicha would help to forgive you.

- Then that is exactly what I’ll give you, Iluku held her pilche out and let the guard drink it all up.

She smiled at the guard and nodded, that’s the way to do it. Give me more old man, so I can offer chicha to the other fine warriors here.

She let everyone of the jaguar men drain his cup and then stayed to talk with them for a while.

Little by little the warriors eyelids started to droop and they fell into sleep and onto the floor.

The Queen With The Frozen Heart - Down In The Dungeons

The delicious smell of cooking food wafted down the dungeon corridors.

The men around the king stirred in their cells, it was such a long time since they had eaten.

- I am old, he heard a muttering voice, hundreds of years old and nobody respects me. Who needs to carry food to the prisoners? Killa, of course. No, there's no one else around to do it. It has to be me. No respect for the age...

The aroma of the food grew stronger and the king could hear sounds of something being dragged on the cave floor.

- So which one of you is the supposed king, a grumpy voice asked from the darkness.

The men waited in silence, they had not given him up, even after all that had happens to them in the jaguar men's hands.

- For goodness sake, Killa swore, your son sent me, Amarun. I'm supposed to be here to save you.

King could see the old man dragging large bowl of food.

- My wife sent this to you, he explained, you'll need all your strength to escape.

- To escape, the king repented his bursts instantly.

- Yes, we are here to save you and get you back to your families, the old man sneered, I have bowls for you here somewhere. You need to eat fast so you'll ready when Iluku says it's time to leave. I'm Killa, by the way, nice to meet you and all that.

- Killa, one of the warriors shouted in surprise, the man from the moon?

- Yes, that's me, Killa preened, and who are you?

- I'm Rumi, the man stammered and blushed.

- And I am Umasiki, the king interrupted, what I would like to know is, why should we trust you?

The men in their cells took a step back and waited in silence.

- You don't need to trust me, Killa started serving the food, just eat and be ready. It won't be long anymore.

The Queen With The Frozen Heart 15

The prince opened his mouth to calm his men.

- Do not fear, he tried to say.

But instead of a human voice, only a great predator’s screech could be heard.

He rose his head to the moon and roared, and the earth shattered with his rage.

Iluku shook his wings and rose to the sky with the terrified warriors.

The snakes hanging from the trees, threw themselves to the ground and slithered towards Amarun.
They came from every direction and climbed on him like he was a huge tree.

Finally every one of them was on him, the last ones hanging from his talons.

He shook his wings and uncertainly he rose to the sky.

In the distance, Iluku’s white wings shone with the moon’s light.

The huge owl was flying towards a black mountaintop that rose above the jungle.

Amarun flew through the night, and threw the sky.

He was like the vengeance on wings, tearing down the clouds and the stars with his power.
- There are strange lights on the sky, the people of the land spoke, what do they mean?

- We must ask the queen, others answered, she will know what they are.

In the castle, the queen was raised from her sleep and taken to the roof.

But no one could say what the colorful lights undulating on the night sky meant.

Not even her.

The prince flew and with every movement of his wings he learned to control them better.
He could see Iluku, far far away, too far to reach, too far to touch.

And he flew, only thought in his mind, to reach the owl, to catch it, to win it.

To what, he asked himself.

To devour it, his new nature answered, to devour the owl and everyone it is carrying.

To strangle them with our body and to tear their flesh with our talons.

To sink our beak into their blood and drink it to our refreshment.
- Fly, he roared.

- Fly, his new nature screeched.

The terrifying voice filled the skies scaring the people below them.

Shaking from fear they huddled in their huts.

- You must flee, the guards shouted to the queen.

- It is the beast, they screamed, the feathered snake has returned and it will kill us all!
