On Top - Photo Challenge

What is on top, or what does it mean?

Top can signify the uppermost part, point, surface or end of something.
In Ecuador it is not at all uncommon to find many people on top of a motorcycle. And with no helmet on top of their heads.
It can be the part farthest from a given reference point.

Or the crown of the head.

It can also mean the part of a plant, like carrot, that is above the ground.

Or something, such as a lid or cap, that covers or forms an uppermost part.

It also signifies the highest degree, pitch, or point; the peak, acme, or zenith.
The mountain tops can look quite imposing with the clouds on top of them. This picture was taken from the highway from Otavalo to Cayambe in Northern Ecuador.
Or the highest position or rank, to be at the top of his profession.

On top can mean that you are in control, that you are fully informed of something.

That there is something else, in addition to, besides.

Or that you are following closely on something or coming immediately after.

When you are on top of the world you are in a position of great happiness or success.
I think this little girl felt on the top of herself because I took the picture of her. She definitely enjoyed the attention.
And when you are over the top, you are surpassing a goal or quota.

Or you are being excessively expressive or dramatic.

It is good to be on top.

  1. Being on top of your game is very important. Keep the quality of what you are doing at the top is very hard to do, but so worth it.

  5. Ohhh, you should come here in PH. I once saw a tricycle with more than 5 people on board. I'll try to find the photo and share with you one of these days.

PS. That image of the mountain is gorgeous!

  6. It's good to be on top by most definition because it's being at an elevation or a position that can see the bigger picture.

  9. It's always good to be on top, but life just goes around. Sometimes you're down there and it's during this time that you realize how blessed you are.

    1. That is so true! If you're always on top, you'll never need a helping hand and never realize the love and goodness that are around you.

  10. Hi, Joanna, I cam across your Tweet and it brought me to your blog. We spent a couple of weeks in Ecuador back in 2009 driving from Quito south to Cuenca, Loja, Vilcabamba, back to Cuenca (because we had car trouble), over to Guayaquil and then up the coast to Manta, Canoa, Bahia de Caraquez (sp?) and over to Quito. We took a short trip up to Otavalo and Cotacachi before we left. I wish we could have stayed longer! We've been collecting businesses for a directory for Ecuador Expats (ecuador-expats.com). If you have any that you'd recommend, we love to add them.
